What is a real fan?

What is a real fan ?

I think I found a real fan at a gig in Hebden Bridge last summer.

A month or so before the gig I had an e-mail from somone called Martin. In his e-mail he said he had bought "Boy On A Beach" on the internet and that he loved the music. At the time I didn't know he was from Norway and I asked him if he could try and make the Trades Club Hebden date (near Leeds/Halifax).

He said he would check with work and maybe take a flight to Manchester. Well, he did make the gig!

He flew to Manchester took a taxi to Hebden the night before and arrived at the Trades Club. It was great to meet him - what an up beat character, so positive. At the end of the night he told me that the lyrics in the title track "Boy On A Beach" made him quite emotional because he also has kids and he identified with the song.

Lap Dancing in Newbury

I'm doing a gig at Arlington Art Centre in Newbury on the 5th November 2009. I really didn't think I'd be back in Newbury so soon, especially after the last time I was there... I thought I'd share one of the more, ehem, fascinating venues I've played in the last year.

It all started when I got an e-mail from an old friend who'd looked me up on My Space. After playing e-mail ping pong and getting up to speed on each others lives, it turned out she was really into the local Newbury music scene and her son was the drummer in Jagged Lexicon. She gave me the phone number of a local promoter, and he turned out to be putting on gigs at a new venue called "Secrets". Sounded good. I phoned him and he gave me a gig there.

I asked my mate Dave if he would support us. He said he'd check out the venue out on Google. Within moments, he'd sent me a "panic" e-mail - Secrets was apparently the town's leading lap dancing and strip club!

We're nothing if not professionals, so needless to say we went ahead and did the gig.

On arriving what did we find? A 9 ft chrome pole directly in front of the stage. Dave tried to climb it which was hilarious... it was then moved over to one side. We kept our clothes on, had a great night,and still got an encore.
